Urawamisono District Demonstrator Project
This is a project we have been implementing as the representative organization since being selected by the Ministry of the Environment in FY2017, FY2018, and FY2019 (planned) to implement a Low Carbon Technology Research, Development and Demonstration Program (Project name: “Digital Grid Router (DGR) and Power Interchange Settlement System to Accelerate the Introduction of Renewable Energy”). As part of this project, we have been conducting development aimed at demonstrating electrical power interchanges between newly-built smart houses (single-unit dwellings), a large shopping mall, and convenience stores in Urawamisono District, Saitama City, Saitama Prefecture.
A DGR, ~5 kW solar power system, and storage batteries were installed in five smart houses, each of which was connected via an independent sub-grid. Interchange of stored solar power is conducted during both normal and emergency situations. Further, a 60 kW solar power system and DGRs were installed at a shopping center near Urawa-misono Station, and DGCs were installed at nearby convenience stores. Electrical power interchanges were then conducted between the homes and the convenience stores, between the convenience stores and the shopping center, and between the shopping center and the homes over the power grid. The demand-supply matching needed to conduct the interchanges was conducted on a continuous session (zaraba) market via the Digital Grid Platform. Processing between the DGRs, DGCs, and the cloud were conducted using Blockchain technology.
